Anything but mine

“Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”-Ferris Bueller

So I am starting a blog, obviously.

A little on the journey that brought me here…

I might be the most easily inspired person in the world. No seriously, I watched the movie Julie and Julia, and I was like ‘I can soooo do that.’ Then I just needed a theme. Easier said than done that’s for sure! I am one of those terrible people who are “an inch deep and a mile wide.” I like everything…somewhat. So picking one thing to write about? Yeah, not so easy.

Fast forward roughly 5 months to sometime last week. My research mentor asked me if I was a goal setter. I was quick to tell him that I didn’t really believe in setting long term goals. I explained that setting long term goals made me feel like I was living in transit, always waiting for the next big thing. I would much rather live in the moment, enjoy the little things.

Saturday, I was on my way home from a wonderful time spent at a Viking festival and exploring Ballard with two of my roommates. Somehow through the conversation we got on the subject of bucket lists, and I told them about the list in my phone. I confessed my goals of being on the price is right and riding in a side car of a motorcycle.

So, there it was. I am the biggest hypocrite on the face of this planet!!! I proclaim goals are for the birds, yet I make bucket lists, daily to-do lists, weekly to-do lists, shopping lists, list of things I like….SO MANY LISTS! These lists all include things I want to do or need to do, in other words “goals.” They are all leading up to something…I am by no means sure what that is, but without a doubt something…SOMETHING BIG! I know God has big plans for me, and these lists of goals are there to help keep me on track. I may not be sure of much, but of this I am 100% certain.

Last night I sat down with my handy notebook and began writing out my goals, and then, I realized I had found my theme. This blog is going to be about the little things. The everyday goals I set for myself that will hopefully make me a better person and ultimately help me to fulfill the plans God has in store for me.

I separated my goals into 6 categories: Faith, Service, Health/Wellness, Mind, Culture and Bucket List. I plan to go into each of these in much more detail over the next few weeks, and then this will become a blog about the things I have learned about myself and the world around me through trying to achieve these goals.

Man, this sounds really serious, but I promise it won’t be!!! I have a habit of taking an ordinary situation and making it ridiculous by means of my overall awkwardness and silly perspective on the world, so I promise to try my best to keep these posts rather light-hearted and entertaining.

So, here we go.
